On August 22nd, 23-year old Iryna Zarutska boarded a train after her shift with the intent to go home. She never made it. Zarutska took a seat in front of Decarlos Brown where he was captured on train CCTV standing up behind her moments later and stabbing her with a knife. The images of this young woman are grisly and heartbreaking. She goes from a state of being surprised by the attack to the realization that she has moments to live. She can be seen breaking down before slumping over in her seat and onto the floor of the train. She would be pronounced dead at the scene.

The messed up part: THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.

Here is the critical bit of information we know about Mr. Brown. He had a long rap sheet that consisted of 14 prior crimes. According to his family, he has a history of mental illness. So why was he allowed to be roaming the streets freely?

The most simplistic answer: liberal justices and a soft-on-crime judicial system that feels compelled to let criminals roam the streets despite being a possible threat to society. Let’s be clear, these are not rehabilitated criminals who have served their time (although it has been the issue in some cases) but rather those who are given a slap on the wrist. In Brown’s case, he signed a promise to appear in court on a prior misdemeanor charge.

Is that where we are now in this world? Holding career criminals to a promise that we most likely know will not be honored?

As it stands, the judge, Teresa Stokes, who was responsible for Mr. Brown being on the street because of that promise, is now facing calls to be removed from the bench. One cannot blame those who want her removed because they view her as culpable in the death of Ms. Zarutska. To that end, the soft criminal justice system along with its liberal lawmakers is just as culpable. According to them, we should not be incarcerating people of color over what they deem small crimes and perhaps that argument would have some merit if it wasn’t constantly abused by those who have no respect for the law. This is why marijuana has been legalized in a lot of states because those who are most likely to be busted are the aforementioned people of color. So, to that end, everyone else has to smell that stink weed nearly everywhere they go. I can personally attest to smelling it on a regular basis in my neighborhood.

Back to the topic at hand…why was Decarlos Brown allowed to roam the streets freely despite a lengthy criminal record and a history of mental illness? Did Judge Stokes not take this into consideration? Probably not. But who else can we point the finger in the aftermath of this tragedy?

Mayor Vi Lyles has went as far as acknowledging that Mr. Brown has a mental illness and “appears to have suffered a crisis.” What the actual fuck? If anyone is suffering a crisis here, it’s the family of Iryna Zarutska. However, the problem is the left wants to completely dismiss mental illness or at least what they deem to be an illness because the majority of its voter base relies on soft laws and enforcement.

To be fair, look at the difference of opinion on trans people as it pertains to mental illness from both sides of the aisle. Each side is vastly different.

The cruel irony of Iryna’s death is the fact that she and her family fled war-torn Ukraine to seek safety in the United States. The flawed justice system of Charlotte, North Carolina and its liberal philosophies led to her demise at the hands of someone who never should have been on that train with her. One can’t watch that attack go down and not have a feeling of helplessness, because what if that was your wife, your daughter or your sister?

I feel there are two feelings that you can have watching that horrible video clip: the feeling of helplessness and unrequited rage at those who allowed it to happen. The attack itself is horrible but one part that many media outlets are glossing over is the lack of help from those sitting near Ms. Zarutska. One woman who is sitting in the seat across the aisle looks at her after she was stabbed and just collects her things and leaves. Why? The men sitting behind her; they did nothing. One gets up and the others remain sitting because it’s best to not get involved.

Fuck that shit.

Let’s recap what this tragedy taught us. Mentally ill people can roam the streets if the right judge is presiding over their case, criminal records do not matter because they can be trusted to appear in court on a signed promise and there is a general willingness to let someone die because insert reason here. By the way, it took 90 seconds for someone to finally come to her aid and he wasn’t sitting near her. By that point, it would be too late.

From a conservative perspective, if someone is deemed mentally ill or a threat to society and should be locked up, it has nothing to do with their genetic makeup but rather the presented track record of behavior. The Left thinks they are doing the right thing but those decisions are leading to a lot of innocent people being hurt by those who should be behind bars.
